Garmin Expansion Pedestrian Plaza

Bomanite Licensee, Musselman & Hall Contractors (M&H) worked with local architecture firm Gould Evans during the design development phase of the Garmin Expansion project. M&H assisted with the project specifications and samples. The design team and owner’s representatives visited the M&H architectural concrete showroom multiple times to discuss project particulars and review samples until the team was able to fine tune the project finishes.

Musselman & Hall placed 40,800 SF pedestrian plaza as part of a building expansion project at the Garmin headquarters in Olathe, KS. Nearly 25,800 SF of the plaza was done utilizing the Bomanite Sandscape Texture Finish, Multiple planter beds, cast-in-place Sandscape finished concrete benches, a continuous 1’ x 8’ joint spacing, and the detailed stain pattern created unique challenges to this project.

The entire plaza was saw cut and v grooved, or bevel cut, on a 1’ x 8’ joint spacing, joint layout was extremely critical. The jointing was continuous throughout the 700’ long plaza. Any variance in joint layout would be obvious and would not be acceptable.

M&H used Bomanite Con-Color to stain the Sandscape Texture portion of the plaza. The stain pattern incorporated three Bomanite Con-Colors; Cobblestone Gray, Nickel Gray, and Natural Gray. The stained Sandscape was then sealed with BomaSeal C-18.

This is a beautiful project and exhibits the potential and beauty of quality architectural concrete. This project won the Gold Award for the Best Bomanite Exposed Aggregate Project.

Powerhouse Plaza

Client Need:
Designers were looking for a paving material with the right texture for their vision of this plaza.

Bomanite Licensee Colorado Hardscapes showed the designers the exclusive Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System, Sandscape Texture® by Bomanite paving installed nearby on the NCSL building and they were sold. Although the colors and patterns are quite different, the finish lends a nice texture to many design styles.

This plaza proves how concrete can take any shape. The dramatic lines of the design are enhanced by elegant, crisp Sandscape Texture paving with stained bands. Seat walls along the structure complete the look.

Tuscany Plaza

The Tuscany Plaza, located in Englewood, Colorado is a commercial building that received an updated hardscape to match its Class A status. When the Lowe Enterprises representative went to the Colorado Hardscapes’ Design Center to check out paving options for the Tuscany Plaza, he thought he was engaging in an effort of futility. How could any concrete product meet Lowes high standards and expectations?

However, after exploring the possibilities Bomanite Licensed Contractor Colorado Hardscapes had to offer, the Lowes representative was ready to recommend concrete as a replacement for tile in the atrium and walkways. The decorative concrete finish that was decided on pushed the limits of what the experts at Colorado Hardscapes had done before. It turned out to be their first project in Denver that used a lighter-than-gray integral color with the Sandscape Texture system, without using white cement. The white Lithocrete bands and the 7’ o.c.e.w. scoring required extensive forming and long straight lines. All of the concrete was installed over waterproof membrane and/ or structural concrete. Both the expansion and v-cut joints required caulking. All requiring the expertise of installation and quality craftsmanship that Colorado Hardscapes provided while meeting the first-class expectations for the paving at Tuscany Plaza.

ONEOK Plaza Renovation

Alaback Design Associates approached Bomanite Licensed contractor Bomanite of Tulsa, Inc. to create a paving option for the ONEOK Plaza redevelopment project. Instead of the usual band-aid repair project, the natural gas company opted for a $4.8 million renovation of Plaza Commons, an area along Sixth Street between Boulder and Cheyenne avenues. The renovation includes a multipurpose outdoor space, complete with new seating and green-space landscaping for employees and downtown visitors that incorporates a modern feel that complements the revitalization of downtown Tulsa.

The architect wanted a product to complement the granite pavers being used on the project and decided Bomanite Alloy was a perfect option for the concrete paving.

Bomanite Alloy offers a blend of reflective aggregates to create a unique decorative finish for a highly durable monolithic slab. Bomanite Alloy can be placed exterior for use with light to moderate duty vehicular traffic or foot traffic.
