The Tandy Family YMCA opened in 2016 with more than 100,000 square feet dedicated to the pursuit of healthy living and community building; this state-of-the-art facility is built on the grounds of the 50-year old Thornton Family YMCA, one of the anchors of midtown Tulsa.
In collaboration with OU Physicians Center for Exercise and Sports Medicine, and OU Physical Therapy, the Tandy Family YMCA features three brand-new pools, new interactive fitness equipment, an all-seasons Splash Park and playground, with a focus on prevention and education.
Bomanite Licensee, Bomanite of Tulsa worked with GH2 Architects to choose the Bomanite Exposed Aggregate System for the exterior multi-use space. With the emphasis on ADA compliance and universal design, both Bomanite Revealed and Bomanite Sandscape Texture were incorporated. Bomanite Revealed was chosen for its ability to provide vibrant color, a Custom glass blend was created to compliment and unify the safety surfaces around the play areas. Bomanite Sandscape Texture in Gobi Desert was installed to provide for a more natural feel, its slip resistant/traction coefficient, appearance and longevity.
Approx 2,000 feet of fully grassed Bomanite Grasscrete was installed at the VanDellen Christian School. The Grasscrete system was covered with Bluegrass sod that provides an aesthetic appeal to a fire lane access that leads from a school parking lot along the edge of a sports field. There is a four foot span of regular concrete with a 16 foot installation of Grasscrete which creates a 20 foot wide emergency access road. The Grasscrete is irrigated along with the sports field.
This road allows the fire department to gain access to the buildings off a main street in the event of a fire. Using Grasscrete allowed the school to maximize the size of the sports field, creating a safer playing surface than concrete or asphalt. Additionally the use of the Grasscrete lessened the stormwater runoff that would otherwise have to be accounted for.
Grasscrete offers the ability to provide year-round access for a variety of applications requiring structural paving surfaces without compromising the aesthetics of the exterior landscaping. Grasscrete is a very sustainable product that can employ a large recycled material content both in the form of aggregate and binder such as fly ash or slag—its lifespan is indefinite and can be recycled itself to form the aggregates for future Grasscrete applications; providing Specifiers with a truly sustainable, eco-friendly system to accommodate a variety of needs.
Bomanite of Tulsa, Inc. worked with Alaback Design Associates to specify Bomanite Revealed Exposed Aggregate System to produce a slip resistant surface for a splash pad on the City of Tulsa, Parks Department project Manion Park.
Manion Park Splash pad used recycled glass as the aggregate to produce the vibrant paving option that offered excellent slip resistance for kids on the playground. Saw-cuts where placed between colors to produce a clean break point for each color on the 2,800 SF splash pad.
Bomanite Licensee, Bomanite of Tulsa worked with architects PDG Incorporated to create a unique and one of a kind design for Jackson Park located in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Micro-Top XT by Bomanite in several custom colors were chosen to create a vibrant and fun playground.
Micro-Top XT by Bomanite is a two-part, polymer-modified cementitious coating consisting of a unique rubber-like polymer liquid and a cement-aggregate blend. It can be applied over almost any clean, sound surface including concrete, cement block, tile, metal and wood in a wide range of colors and graphics. Micro-Top XT has extraordinary adhesion and ability to withstand prolonged pedestrian and vehicular traffic. In these respects, the material is far superior to conventional cementitious coatings. Micro-Top XT provides a tough, water-retardant coating that substantially reduces water penetration, freeze-thaw scaling and concrete carbonation. It is a “breathable” coating that releases normal entrapped vapor without loosening or blistering. Typical uses include concrete exterior restoration, parking structure protection, sidewalk resurfacing, wall refinishing and installation coating, stadium renovation, swimming pool walkways and balcony deck surfacing.
